Tripoli, 15 December 2013:
Senior Ministry of Interior official, Haitham Tajouri, was kidnapped last night on Tripoli’s Airport Road, just . . .[restrict]days after he had given up a leading militia role and joined the police. After being held overnight in Zintan, he was released this morning after officials there said that the incident was a “misunderstanding”.
According to Hashim Bishr, head of the Tripoli Supreme Security Committee, it has been agreed by Zintan that the group from the town responsible for the abduction will be charged.
Tajouri shot to prominence in September while commander of the Ist Isnad (Support Unit of the SSC) which was accused of kidnapping Anoud Senussi when she was released from jail. A month later, he was involved in freeing the Prime Minister who had been kidnapped by members of the Libyan Revolutionaries Operations Room and the Counter Crime Agency.
Just last week, US Ambassador Deborah Jones tweeted congratulations at his decision to join the Ministry of the Interior. [/restrict]
