Tripoli, 5 October 2013:
A number of arrests have been made following Tuesday’s torching of the police station in . . .[restrict]the Tripoli suburb of Suq Al-Juma, although so far, no names have been disclosed.
The attack happened after a local resident had been shot dead by the Quwat Al-Rada, the special deterrence force in Tripoli. Those arrested are believed to be family and friends of the dead man, who deterrence forces said had resisted arrest.
The latests arrests followed a meeting between the local council and community leaders with the various brigades operating in the area to strengthen local security.
It was agreed at the meeting that in the absence of the police and army to ensure state institutions in Suq Al-Juma were protected, the local brigades had authority to do the job and arrest anyone breaking the law.
The brigades authorised to act are:
- Mitiga Rada (Deterrence) Force;
- Nawasi Brigade;
- Brigade 13 – Jama Berrish;
- Assitara(Control) Force – Almajd Brigade plus Bab-Tajoura Brigade;
- Brigade 36 – Suk-Juma Hawks;
- Brigade 42.
