Tripoli/Benghazi, 12 October 2013:

The Benghazi home of a commander of the Zawia Martyrs Brigade based in . . .[restrict]Sirte, Colonel Salah Buhulaiga, was attacked in the early hours of this morning. A geltina bomb was thrown at the building, in the city’s Sabri district. No one was injured as the house was empty at the time. The colonel and his family were in Sirte.

It is unclear if the incident is linked to the death yesterday in Sirte of a member of the Petroleum Facilities Guard under the command of Ibrahim Jadhran. He was shot by members of the Zawia Martyrs Brigade at the town’s southern entrance.

Jadhran has been leading the blockade of the eastern oil terminals.

The dead man has been named Zakaria Saleh Musa. It is claimed that he was driving his car at high speed and failed to stop even after battalion members fired a warning shot in the air and at his car tyres.

Buhulaiga is reported saying that it was later discovered that  Musa was a member of the Petroleum Facilities Guards and that he was on his way to rejoin the force.

Meanwhile in Benghazi an unknown assailant this morning shot dead Mohamed Fitouri, whose father is a commander of Zintan Martyrs Battalion. According to the Benghazi Joint Operations Room, the dead man had a police record and the killing was an act of personal revenge. [/restrict]
