Tripoli, 30 October 2013:
Kufra and Tazirbu have been without internet for three full days because of a fault in . . .[restrict]fibre optic cable that links the Sahara city with Tripoli, some 2,000 kilometres away.
The service has become unreliable from the first day of Eid, local freelance journalist Suliman Abdullah Zuwai told the Libya Herald. The service became progressively worse until it collapsed altogether.
Engineers managed to trace the problem to a section of the cable between Jalu and Awjila. However it is not yet clear what caused the failure.
“Interruptions in telecommunications are frequent in Kufra” said Zwai, “and the Ministry of Telecommunications is not paying attention to the issue here.” He added that the region still does not have a Wi-Max service and the internet is only available through ADSL. [/restrict]
