Tripoli, . . .[restrict]2 September 2013:
Tripoli International Airport will be closed from midnight on Thursday 5 September until 6 pm on Friday 6 September for essential maintenance work.
Several airlines, including Alitalia, will be redirecting Friday flights to Mitiga Airport. Others, including Air Malta, are postponing flights scheduled for that day.
Plans to close Tripoli airport for three months for extensive maintenance work appear unlikely to go ahead, the Libya Herald has learned. “It’s not going to happen,” an airline source told this paper today. The proposal to move all flights to the much smaller Mitiga Airport was said to be unworkable.
The airline authorities are said to be shifting to the idea of rehabilitating the old runway at Tripoli airport and using that temporarily instead. [/restrict]
