Tripoli, 11 August 2013:

Two men are reported to have been arrested following Friday’s deadly attack at the Luna . . .[restrict]Park funfair next to Tripoli International Fair ground when four men started firing indiscriminately from the roof of a neighbouring building. One woman was killed and two others were seriously injured in the assault.

According to security sources, one man was arrested early this morning at the Ras Jedir Tunisian border crossing. The unnamed man was apparently trying to flee to Tunisia. The other was arrested at Al Hera, on the way to Gharian. The remaining two are still being sought. The security forces say they know their identities.

The four men reportedly launched their attack after a row with guards who refused them entry to the park. It is open to families only. It was initially reported that the attackers had climbed over the fairground fence to attack people.

At least six others were injured in the assault, mainly as a result of a stampede by those trying to flee the fairground.

There are reports of an similar incident at another Tripoli fairground yesterday, on the harbour seafront near the Waddan Hotel. The sudden presence of three men, two of them wielding knives, the third with a gun, is said to have caused families to flee in terror. No one, however, was hurt. The reasons for the incident are unknown.
