Tripoli, 10 August 2013:
A Spanish football team has cancelled a friendly match in Tripoli, after being advised not to travel to . . .[restrict]Libya for security reasons.
The Catalan team Espanyol had been due to play a friendly match with Libya’s Al-Ittihad team next week, as part of a collaboration agreement signed by the two clubs, according to Spanish sports website Football España.
Espanyol are now said to be looking to reschedule the match, if the security situation improves.
Another friendly, in Oman, was cancelled last week on the request of the Libyan Football Association, which cited players’ expired passports and visa issues as the reason.
The last month has not been the best for Libya’s international football profile. Libya’s women’s football team were also prevented from playing in a July tournament in Germany, because it coincided with Ramadan. [/restrict]
