Tripoli, 20 August 2013:
Afriqiyah Airways today launched the start of a twice-weekly service between Misrata and Cairo. Today’s first . . .[restrict]flight to the Egyptian capital on Afriqiyah Airbus 320 had 140 passengers on board according to airline spokesman Salah Al-Zway. He added that although it has only just started, flights from Misrata to Cairo, and also to Benghazi are already largely fully booked.
The captain on the flight, however, has said that there were only 25 people on board.
Flights from Tripoli and Benghazi to Cairo are certainly packed, despite the crisis in Egypt.
Afriqiyah already flies from Misrata to Tunis, Sfax and Benghazi. The twice weekly Sfax flight started in June.
Meanwhile, Libyan Airlines has increased seats on a number of crowded destinations by using larger aircraft.
The new Airbus Airbus 330 aircraft is being used on the Tripoli-Istanbul and Tripoli-Casablanca routes instead of Airbus 320s. On the Benghazi-Tunis, Abraq-Tunis, Abraq-Tripoli and Tobruk-Tunis flights, Airbus 320s will replace CRJ aircraft.
Each of these changes should add some 100 extra seats to the flights. [/restrict]
