Tripoli, 10 July 2013:
Speaking at Sunday’s press conference, alongside Prime Minister Ali Zeidan, Electricity Minister, Ali Muhairig, head of . . .[restrict]the Ministerial Committee set up to implement GNC Law No. (27) said that ridding Tripoli of all armed groups would probably take months. He said that the reason for this was so as not to create a security vacuum in the city.
Law No. (27) stipulates that Tripoli must be evacuated by all armed groups and was passed by the GNC after armed clashes took place between officially recognised armed groups in the Tripoli districts of Bu Sleem and Salah Al-Deen.
The Cabinet Committee headed by Electricity Minister Muhairig includes the Ministers of Justice, Transport, Water Resources, Labour and Youth & Sports.
Tripoli shall be freed of all armed groups whether they are from Tripoli or from without, continued Muhairig. There will not be any armed groups besides official ones without exception, he added.
All groups must leave Tripoli as was stipulated in the law (No. 27) including the air and naval bases. This will not mean they (the bases) shall be totally vacant but that they will only have in them official soldiers with any army number, Minister Muhairig explained. [/restrict]
