Tripoli, 25 July 2013:
Speaking at yesterday’s press conference, Interior Minister Mohamed Sheikh confirmed that there was an attack at . . .[restrict]4.10 pm on Tuesday aimed at Corinthia Hotel, but that it went off course and hit flats nearby.
Investigations are continuing, he added but nevertheless he insisted that security was “under control”. He further said that he wanted to tell foreigners and companies that are thinking of returning to work in Libya that “security is improving”.
Asked by the media as to how his Ministry had ascertained that the mortar attack was indeed directed at Corinthia, Interior Minister Sheikh replied that they had had prior intelligence two days before the attack that some buildings or sites were being targeted.
This is the first time that the Libyan authorities have publicly confirmed that they are beginning to obtain intelligence on terrorist activities. [/restrict]
