Tripoli, 7 May 2013:
The Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani,is being treated in London after he collapsed in Tripoli at . . .[restrict]the end of last week.
According to Dar Al-Ifta spokesman Essam Al-Najjar, Ghariani is in undergoing tests and is currently “in good health” but collapsed last week because of pressure of work.
“The Sheikh is in good health, and he is currently in Britain for some medical tests . . . all that happened was that Sheikh Sadik fainted briefly due to exhaustion, and doctors had advised him to rest for some time,” said Najjar.
He added that the Grand Mufti had been planning to go to London for follow-up consultations relating to eye-surgery he had previously had in the UK and was already in possession of a British visa.
The Dar Al-Ifta (Fatwa Office) is the organisation through which the Chief Mufti operates.
He is one of several leading Libyan figures who will be forced from office as a result of the passing of the Political Isolation Law. [/restrict]
