Tripoli, 22 March 2013:
Seven men found guilty of the attack last year on Tripoli International Airport were each handed . . .[restrict]prison sentences of two and a half years by Tripoli Military Court yesterday, Thursday.
Twelve others involved in the attack who are still being sought were sentenced in absentia to five years in jail.
On 4 June, last year, 200 members of Tarhouna’s Al-Awfia brigade seized control of the aiport in retaliation for the abduction of its commander, Abuajila Al-Habshi, the previous day. After sporadic clashes that lasted less than an hour, the Awfeya Brigade surrendered to the Union of the Revolutionaries of Tripoli.
In the immediate aftermath, 172 Al-Awfia brigadesmen and others from Tarhouna were arrested.
The trial started on 28 August last year. [/restrict]
