Tripoli, 10 March 2013:
The US Embassy in Tripoli has announced the start of registration for a leadership training course in the US for young Libyans.
The course is part of the Chris Stevens Youth Network, named in honour of the US ambassador slain last year in Benghazi and who was noted for his deep care and affection for Libya. It is involved in providing training and building links between schools in the US and the Middle East and North Africa. This particular programme, however, is exclusive to Libya.
It is targeted at high school students of both genders, aged between 15 and 17 years of age. The plan is to send 15 of them to the US for three weeks, starting on 1 June, to learn about leadership skills as well as learn how they can promote mutual understanding between Libya and the US.
The students will be accompanied by two Libyan chaperons at last one of whom will be a woman. Those selected are expected to have some links with Libya civil society organisations.
