Around the country people are today, Thursday, celebrating National Child’s Day, along with Mother’s Day, which shares the . . .[restrict]same date in Libya.
In many households, presents will be given to mothers and there will be special family meals this evening. Organisations have also been holding special events.
In Benghazi, Libyan Special Olympics, a group founded in 1998 to encourage handicapped people to participate in sports, held a one-day event. With an art competition, a zoo tour and competitive games, the day attracted some 400 people, including members of the Friends of the Mentally Handicapped Society of Benghazi.
There is also a celebratory event in Tripoli tomorrow: ‘Child’s Day: A New Day has Come,’ which will include speeches, a choir and live music. Put on by the Child and Promise Organisation, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), the day will include video screenings and an exhibition of children’s photography.
