Tripoli, 4 February 2013:
There was snow in Zawia today and severe flooding in Tripoli, as bad weather continued to hit the north of the country. Children in and around Zawia enjoyed the snowfall, building snowmen, having snowball fights and zooming around on improvised sledges. However, motorists were less happy, with numerous minor crashes and some vehicles stranded on icy, snow-covered roads.
Meanwhile thunderstorms and torrential rains meant flooded streets throughout the capital, made all the worse by almost non-existent draining. The forecast for Tripoli indicates that in the next two days is there is a strong chance of snow. This would mean that it will be the second year running that the capital has been carpeted in white.
