Tripoli, 24 January 2013:
The President of the General National Congress, Muhamed Magarief, and his opposite number in the Egyptian Shura (Advisory) . . .[restrict]Council, Ahmed Fahmy, have agreed to set up a joint committee to promote cooperation on legislative elections in the two countries. It will also coordinate legislation in both countries on trade regulations, the passage of goods and other commercial links.
Yesterday, Magarief and Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi agreed to set up a cooperation committee at cabinet level to boost economic and political ties between Libya and Egypt.
In their talks today , Magarief and Fahmy also assessed the position of Egyptian workers in Libya and agreed to work to ease their difficulties. They further discussed cooperation to help recover money stolen from Libya and smuggled abroad.
Both men expressed keenness to extensively develop relations between the two countries. Fahmy said that the visit by Magarief and his delegation to Cairo indicated the depth and strength of ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile Magarief and the Egyptian public prosecutor, Talaat Abdullah, agreed today to the formation of a joint commission that will oversee legal proceedings against Qadaffi regime figures wanted for crimes in Libya and who are living in Egypt. The commission will be under the direct supervision of the Egyptian public prosecutor and and the Libyan Attorney-General, Abdulaziz Al-Hasadi, who was at the meeting.
Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi yesterday confirmed that Egypt would move forward in extraditing wanted suspects to Libya so long at it was in accordance with Egyptian laws and international norms and conventions signed by both it and Libya.
