French film festival in Tripoli

Tripoli, 13 November:

A film festival is being run by the French cultural body, the Institut Français, in Tripoli from 14 to 29 November. Entitled Le Mois du Film Documentaire (The Month of the Documentary Film), it will feature five films on the environment and the future of the planet. It is planned that a sixth film, to be screened on Thursday, 29 November, will made by local film and video makers about life in Tripoli today.

The documentary festival is being presented by the Institut Français around the world and has been going for a 13 years.

After each film, viewers will be invited to discuss the issues involved.

The institute reopened it doors for French language classes in February but this is the first of its cultural programmes.

The five films, with Arabic subtitles, are L’Or Bleu (Blue Gold) about water resources, to be screened on Wednesday 14 November; 2010, Une année sur a Terre (2010, a Year on Earth) with a modern take on the four elements, water, earth, fire and air, screened on Thursday 15 November; La guerre de l’eau n’aura pas lieu (The Water War will not happen), screened on Wednesday 21 November; Le monde selon Monsanto (The World according to Monsanto) on Wednesday 28 November and Paris, la ville à remonter le temps (Looking back at Paris across time).

All films start at 7 pm.  The venue is the Institute Français, in Shara Karachi, by the old UN office, in central Tripoli.
