Tripoli, 17 October 2012:
A rampage took place inside the Tobruk Medical Centre on Monday night, when inebriated locals stormed . . .[restrict]into the hospital’s births department, forcing staff to flee “in fear of their lives”.
According to the Medical Centre’s press office, officials contacted the relevant law-enforcement agencies, but they did not respond to the call. The Centre also reported that one of the ambulances carrying a patient from Benghazi who had suffered from a heart attack was also assaulted by the same drunken mob.
As yet, staff at the centre have failed to identify the group, nor to give reasons for why they targeted the hospital. It is worthy of note, however, that the Medical Centre has been subjected to several attacks in recent days and that the authorities have thus far failed to take any measures to follow the matter up.
