Ian . . .[restrict]Martin, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General and Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), has extended his warmest congratulations to Mustafa Abushagur on his election as the country’s new Prime Minister.
Martin also congratulated the General National Congress on the transparent process to elect the new Prime Minister, in a statement released today by UNSMIL. He reiterated the readiness of the United Nations to work closely with Abushagur, his upcoming government and the GNC, to support Libya’s democratic transition and their efforts in addressing the country’s priorities.
After a year in post, Martin will soon be handing over to his Lebanese successor. Tarek Mitri, an academic who has also held a number of governmental posts, will take up the position of Special Representative on 14 October. [/restrict]
