Tripoli, 22 September:
The Libyan Iron and Steel Co (Lisco) restarted its hot strip at the end of last month, Sliman Biram, Lisco’s director of commerce and finance, confirmed to Platts Steel Business Briefing.
With the restarting of the hot strip mill Lisco will now be able to supply flat products.
The mill was idled in February last year when the city of Misurata, where the steelworks is located, was the scene of heavy fighting during the anti-government uprising.
Lisco had intended to re-start the hot strip mill a few months ago, but it had first to fix some problems with the plant’s electric power supply from Gecol, the Libyan general electric company. [/restrict]
