Zliten Local Council elected Abdel Moneim Mohammed Al-Sari as its leader, yesterday, Saturday. Faraj Milad Thiab was . . .[restrict]elected deputy leader.
The vote took place at the first meeting of the newly-elected 15-member council. There was broad consensus among the other councillors that he be give the post. In the elections, he won the highest number of votes gained by any candidate — 3894.
Zliten Council elections took place on 23 August, ironically at the very time the town was hit by bitter fighting between two branches of a local tribe. At least three people died in the clashes. In the early hours of the followhg morning, Salafists then used them to attack and destroy Zliten’s famous Sufi shrine of Sidi Abdul-Salam Al-Asmar Al-Fituri. [/restrict]
