Tripoli, 21 May:
The funeral of Abdil-Basit Al-Maghrahi, who was convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and who died yesterday, was held . . .[restrict]today at 1.30pm, local time. He was buried at the Zaghwani cemetery in Janzour, Tripoli.
Less than 100 people attended, mostly relatives. A number of journalists, however, were also present at the cemetery. There were, however, no members of the NTC, government officials or any other officials at the funeral.
One of Megrahi’s relatives stated that, prior to his death, he requested to be buried at Zaghwani cemetery because some of his relatives were buried there.
One of the members of the press at the funeral, photographer Ismail Zeituni, said he had been attacked last night outside the Megrahi home by some of Megrahi’s relatives, in the presence of Al-Jazeera TV. [/restrict]
