Libya looks to recruit Filipino health staff

Tripoli, 13 May:

A team from the Ministry of Health is in the Philippines looking to recruit nurses and other medical workers.

The . . .[restrict]team is reported also to want surgeons, midwives, radiologists, ER and ICU nurses and other specialist doctors and nurses.  Applicants, who have to have at least two years’ experience and be in good health, are being interviewed for immediate employment in Libya.

There are significant numbers of Libyan doctors and specialists. Many, however, work abroad, notably in the UK, in part because they did not want to return during the Qaddafi era and are now settled wherever they find themselves and in part because of higher salaries abroad.

There is a notable skills shortage when it comes to nurses, technicians and other care workers. [/restrict]
