Tripoli, 4 May:
Forces from the Libya Shield Battalion in Kufra deport deported some 200 illegal immigrants to Chad on Thursday morning. . . .[restrict]Some 40 SUV vehicles were used to transfer them to the border, sources involved in the operation said. They said the process was voluntary. It is not known if the migrants were Chadians or from other African countries.
The Shield battalion, made up of men from Benghazi, was deployed to Kufra to restore order after bloody clashes in February between Tebus and the Zway tribe.
The local official responsible for illegal immigration control, Mohammed Al-Oraibi, stated that the deportees had been living in Libya illegally and that prior to being sent to Chad they had promised not to return to Libya again other than through the proper, legal channels.
Al-Oraibi said that those who entered Libya illegally had to respect the Libya and its borders. He also added that on Wednesday a further 42 people had been departed to Chad. He said they were originally from there. He added that there were others who were being processed and would be deported within the next few days. [/restrict]
