Tripoli, 27 May:
The head of the military council for the western region, Mukhtar Fernana, has survived an assassination attempt that took . . .[restrict]place yesterday.
The vehicle in which Fernana was travelling at the time was reportedly attacked by five cars, before the assailants fled.
The identity of the attackers is unknown, and no firm evidence has yet been provided of a possible motive.
