Marj gives Thuwar overpayment back to Central Bank

Benghazi, 7 May:

The Martyrs Battalion in Marj has announced that it has repaid LD 209,000 to the Central Bank following  erroneous . . .[restrict]payments of the cash donation to thuwar ordered by the NTC earlier this year.

There has been a steady stream of repayments by individuals and revolutionary brigades following the fatwa issued in March by the Grand Mufti Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani saying that that anyone who had not fought last year but who had mistakenly been paid the grant had to pay it back to the Central Bank.

Late last month, officials from Tripoli Military Council’s Homat Al-Watan brigade said that members had returned LD 485,000 after it had been discovered that double payments had been made to them.

Last month, the government temporarily suspended distribution of the one-off payment of  LD 4,000 for married men and LD2,400 for unmarried  ones on the grounds that far more people had been paid than there were fighters who took part in the revolution.
