Tripoli, 16 April:

A massive fire broke out . . .[restrict]at a chemical factory in Zuara this morning. Loud explosions were heard and flames rose many metres up into the air.

The factory is located in an industrial area some distance from any residential neighborhoods. There have been no reports of any injuries although the damage at the plant is huge.

Initial reports suggest that the cause was an electrical short circuit.

Because of the intensity of the fire, extra firefighters had to be brought in from as far away as Ajeelat. This afternoon, the firefighters were still trying to control the fire.
