Tripoli, April 8
The Egyptian authorities say they have thwarted an attempt by three Libyans to smuggle nine and a half kilos . . .[restrict]of gold from Libya into Egypt. The three were arrested at the Egyptian border town of Salloum.
They have been named as Ibrahim Mohamed Abdullah Alwergi, aged 36, a businessman, from Benghazi; Norria Saleem Othman, 37, also from Benghazi; and Salma Mohamed Farkash, 26, from Tripoli.
They have been charged with importing the gold without informing the authorities and with the intent of not paying import taxes.
It is reported that following their arrest, the three admitted owning gold and the car in which they were traveling.
