Tripoli, 14 April 2015:
The third tower at Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC) was struck by mortar shells yesterday, causing substantial . . .[restrict]damage to an area between the fifth and sixth floors but no injuries. Shells also struck the parking lot.
The third tower faces in the direction of Hawari, where the Libyan National Army is still engaging in almost daily skirmishes with Ansar Al-Sharia. The shells were said to have been fired from Hawari.
The tower has been unoccupied for some time; it used to house the dormitories for foreign nursing staff.
Benghazi Crisis Committee members had visited the hospital earlier in the day, but were not present when the tower was hit.
The same tower of BMC was hit by a missile in December in an attack which resulted in a fire.
