Tripoli, 1 April 2015:
Libya Dawn aircraft today bombed Zintan airport causing some damage to the front of the passenger . . .[restrict]terminal building according to Omar Matoq, the airport’s manager. There are unconfirmed reoirts that nearby Rujban was also hit.
There were no casualties at Zintan, Matoq said, adding that a number of nearby houses had been hit by shrapnel. He later said that the aircraft used was a Aero L-39 jet trainer and named the pilots as from Ghariyan and the Tripoli subrb of Fashloum.
In Rujban, an LD aircraft, possibly the same one involved in the Zintan raid, is said to have hit a children’s school and fired at a of houses. Again, no one was hurt but the municipal council has closed all schools for the time being.
The attacks are seen as another case of the tit-for-tat air raids being carried out by both sides at present – in this case in reprisal for yesterday’s air strike in Rigdaleen. Libya Dawn claimed that the raid had been carried out by an aircraft which took off from Zintan airport and threatened a counter-attack.
It also claimed that LNA fighter planes had hit targets west of Tripoli and near Ghariyan. [/restrict]
