Kufra, 29 October 2014:
The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has successfully sealed a major leak on Wednesday at the Al-Farigh . . .[restrict]oilfield pipeline, owned by Harouge Oil Operations, 60 kilometres west of the Jalu Oasis.
In an announcement on its website, the NOC has reported that specialists from Al-Farigh and nearby fields were able to plug the leak without encountering any major problems.
The pipeline developed the leak on Sunday because of abnormal pressure that should have been detected by routine tests but which never happened. This was due in part to the long, unexpected closure of the oilfield.
Engineers are currently running other tests on the pipeline so that they can address any other undetected issues with the goal of getting the pipeline back to a place of maximum output.
The NOC has reiterated that accidents like these are the result of long closures and unanticipated restarts.
Harouge Oil Operations operates the Amal, Al-Farigh, Ghani, Tebesti, Al-Jufa, and Al-Naga oilfields, which feed some 100,000 b/d into Ras Lanuf oil terminal. [/restrict]
