Tripoli, 13 May 2014:
The General National Congress (GNC) has again cancelled its regular session today. Members were slated to vote on the budget, but the vote has been pushed back to this Sunday. It seems that they want to give the new prime minister, Ahmed Maetig time to appoint members of his new cabinet.
Because the legality of his election has been questioned, there remain calls for Maetig to ask the GNC for a new election in order to assure that he has full support as prime minister. “I think he must ask Congress to call for another vote if he is serious about gaining the support of the nation,” the former president deputy of the National Transition Council (NTC), Abdul Hafiz Ghoga, told the Libya Herald.
Maetig has Tweeted that his new cabinet will be formed by next week and that a large proportion of its members will be women and young men.
Some unconfirmed names of his new ministers have begun to appear, such as former NTC member Entisar Aghili as Minister of Media and former HNEC head Nuri Elabbar as Deputy Prime Minister. Abdullah Al-Thinni will most likely continue as Minister of Defense. [/restrict]
