Tripoli, 2 May 2014:
Thieves in Tripoli are becoming not only . . .[restrict]more audacious but also more rapacious.
An Indian man, known to staff at the Libya Herald, took a taxi into Tripoli this morning from his home several kilometres west of the city. Suddenly, during the journey, the driver pulled off the main road into a small track. There, when he stopped, there was someone else waiting in what, the Indian says, was evidently a planned move. Together they robbed him.
But bizarrely, having done so, rather than abandoning the victim in the remote spot, the driver then drove him back to the main road and on to his destination in Tripoli.
There, however, this newspaper was told, he demanded the full fare for the journey without batting an eyelid.
The man had to ask friends for the money to pay him. [/restrict]
