Tripoli, 2 May 2014:
The cabinet, at its meeting on Wednesday, has authorised the purchase of four firefighter . . .[restrict]helicopters by the Interior Ministry.
The order, said to be worth some $54 million (LD 67 million), was negotiated late last year with Marseille-based Eurocopters which at the beginning of this year became Airbus Helicopters.
Last year, a series of fires devastated large areas of woodland in the Cyrenaica’s Jebel Akhdar and the eastern part of the Jebel Nafusa near Emsalata and Libya had to rely on help from Italy which sent firefighting planes.
The helicopters will be operated by the Interior Ministry’s National Safety Authority. [/restrict]
