Benghazi, 24 October 2013:
Two explosive devices were discovered and defused in Benghazi today – one beneath a car belonging . . .[restrict]to a middle-ranking police officer.
The bomb had been placed under Abdul-Jalil Wasia’s car in Benghazi’s Almajouri district, spokesman for Benghazi Joint Operations Room Abdullah Zeidi told the Libya Herald. He added that reports initially circulating that the device had been found outside the home of former Interior Minister Ashour Shuail were false.
Zeidi said that a mobile telephone planted with the bomb was found to have, as its ringtone, a song which glorified Qaddafi.
The other device – consisting of two suitcases of explosives – was found under the Lathama Bridge near the Benghazi district of Sabri. It was not clear, Zeidi said, whether the bomb was intended to target the bridge or whether it was for use elsewhere.
Yesterday, in the capital, a car bomb was discovered and defused outside Tripoli West power station in Janzour. [/restrict]
