Tripoli, 3 June 2013:
Members of the SSC unit supposed to guarding Tripoli Airport this afternoon instead barricaded the entrances . . .[restrict]with trucks, in an apparent protest over salary arrears. There were angry arguments with passengers with baggage arriving to catch flights.
According to one airport source, the protestors included militia men whose pay had been stopped because they had not applied formally to the Ministry of the Interior to join the SSC.
As midnight approached, there was still no sign that the trucks would be removed. Passengers on early morning flights tomorrow (Wed) may therefore face problems getting into the airport.
