London, 29 February 2016:
Rada (Special Deterrence Force – SDF) has refuted the claim that a truck stopped in the . . .[restrict]Zawiet Dahmani area of central Tripoli was booby trapped with explosives.
Rada said that the truck, photos of which were widely circulated with accompanying rumours on social media yesterday, was stopped and checked by Rada only after it had received calls from locals that the truck looked suspicious.
They said that their explosives unit headed to the truck and investigated the claim and found nothing untoward regarding the truck.
The road was closed while Rada investigated the truck and this raised the alarm with many locals and passersby – locally and virtually on social media.
People are on heightened alert and on the lookout for any possible repercussions as a result of the ongoing assault on IS/DASEH in Sabratha triggered by the US airstrike ten days ago on an IS hideout in the city.
Rada itself has arrested in Tripoli and deported to Tunisia a number of IS suspects earlier this month. [/restrict]
