Tunis, 10 January 2016:

An aide to Faiez Serraj, Prime Minister-designate of the Government of National Accord (GNA), has . . .[restrict]denied all the allegations about the Zliten visit propagated by the pro-GNC-Libya Dawn media and social media army.

The aide requested that his name is not publicized while the GNA has not been officially approved yet.

The aide denied that the Serraj party was fired at in Misrata or that it was forced to return to Zliten by a roadblock by a small group of armed Misrata militias at the Dafnia checkpoint.

It was also denied that the party was forced to drive back to Zliten and stay in a safe house until negotiations with militias ended and the road was reopened. It was denied that the Serraj party was subsequently airlifted by a helicopter – Libyan, Italian or from wherever – to Misrata airport.

It was denied that the party was only allowed to fly out of Misrata after the Tripoli-authorities to ‘’save the spilling of blood’’ allowed them through on the condition that they left Libya immediately.

However, countering the Serraj party denials, Zliten Municipality Council meanwhile released a statement after the Serraj visit stressing that there was no militia confrontation or gunfire within the boundaries of its Municipality.

Moreover, the Municipality warned that it was considering taking legal action against the ‘’gossip’’ broadcast by pro GNC-Libya Dawn satellite TV channel Al-Naba.

The inference is that the militia confrontation and gunfire into the air against the Serraj motorcade took place within the boundaries of Misrata Municipality. The reports were that the confrontation took place at Misrata’s Dafniya checkpoint.

Meanwhile, to further counter the denials of the Serraj aid and GNA Media Office that nothing whatsoever happened in Misrata and that it was all propaganda, two main Misrata militias, Mahjoub and Hateen released statements condemning the actions of some of their members. They also named the leaders of the dissenting groups and announced their sacking. [/restrict]
