Ghat/Tunis, 9 January 2016:
Ghat municipal council has welcomed the creation of the national unity government and . . .[restrict]has invited the Presidency Council led by prime minister-designate Faiez Serraj to visit the far south-western border town.
It joins a growing list of municipalities backing the LPA. These include places such as Benghazi, Misrata, Zintan, Beida Abyar, Tobruk, Jardas Al-Abid, Guba, Musaid and Bir Ashab and Rujban.
Some municipalities, such as Jalu, have linked their support to a number of conditions, which include no changes in the army’s structure and leadership in its fight against terrorism, local security to be in the hands of the police, full financial support for the municipalities to they can deliver public services, and a balance in top government posts between the country’s three historic regions of Tripolitania, Cyrenaica and Fezzan.
The Presidency Council has already agreed these terms with a number of Cyrenaican political leaders. [/restrict]
