Libyan aviation sources in Libya have confirmed that Tunisian civil aviation authorities have officially . . .[restrict]informed them today that all flights by Libyan carriers into Tunis’s main airport, Carthage, will be suspended from Saturday 5 December to 31 December. The Tunisians say said that the suspension could be subject to extension.
Flights by Libyan airlines to Sfax, however, will be allowed to continue and the Tunisian Civil Aviation and Airport Authority has told its Libyan counterpart that flights by Libya carriers to Tunis could be diverted to Sfax. It added that existing reservations to Tunis with onbound connections from there needed to be changed.
Tunisia has not given any reasons for the decision. However, the country’s transportation ministry is said to be concerned about a potential attack on the airport following the 24 November suicide bombing in Tunis.
The decision will affect around a dozen flights a day, mostly from Tripoli’s Mitiga airport but also from Misrata, Labraq and Tobruk.
