Tripoli, 3 February 2015:

Tunisian authorities will no longer be accepting Libyan passports issued before 2007, said the spokesman . . .[restrict]for the joint security room of Zuwara – Ras Al-Jedir, Hafiz Muammar.

The move comes as traffic at the Ras Al-Jedir bording crossing has increased drastically since the conflict started in Tripoli back in July of 2014.

Muammar went on to explain that the aim of the new regulation was to cut down on congestion at the crossing, allowing for the smoother movement of goods and people between the two countries.

In light of the current bureaucratic situation in Libya, this decision will make it very difficult for those with passports issue pre-2007 to travel to Tunisia, as the acquisition of new documents is presently a long and arduous, if not nearly impossible, process in Libya.

Also this week, the Tunisian government has denied news circulating on social media of its plans to impose visas on Libyans wishing to enter Tunisia. [/restrict]
