The current icy and windy weather may have contributed to the small turnout at protests decrying the UNSMIL-sponsored peace . . .[restrict]process which continued this week in Geneva.
Some two or three hundred demonstrators today braved the cold and occupied a small part of Martyrs’ Square, declaring their support for the General National Congress and the antigovernment of Omer Al-Hassi that it appointed.
There was also a disappointing turnout for yesterday’s nationwide “intifada” called by Wissam Bin Hamid, the Islamist commander of the Libya Shield 1 Brigade.
In Benghazi there was a heavy police and army presence in the city centre, in an operation which began on Wednesday. No protests were reported.
The largest response to Hamid’s “uprising” call came in Zawia where a crowd reportedly some 100-strong, expressed their support for Libya Dawn and the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shoura Council. [/restrict]
