Tripoli, 30 November 2014:

Tripoli’s Appeal Court . . .[restrict]has yet again postponed the trial of Saif Al-Islam Qaddafi and 36 other senior officials of the former regime, including the once-feared former security chief Abdullah Senussi. This is the sixth adjournment this year.

The court met as scheduled today in Habda prison, but decided to adjourn until 14 December. This latest delay arises from the continued absence of several defence lawyers. The judge ordered that all of them attend the 14 December session, along with all defense witnesses and the defendants themselves, the last having little choice n the matter.

The missing lawyers were fined LD 50 each for failing to turn up to today’s proceedings.

For the third time in a row, Saif Al-Islam, who is being held in a prison in Zintan, did not appear by video link. It was said that there continue to be technical difficulties in the closed circuit video link between Zintan and Tripoli.

It appears that the fighting in the Jebel Nafusa has stopped what repairs may be necessary. The defendants are variously accused of murder, advocating violence and using mercenaries. [/restrict]
