Tripoli, 12 April 2014:

A total of 247 projects worth LD 94 million were implemented in various sectors last . . .[restrict]year in the city of Benghazi, Benghazi Local Council (BLC) reported.

The revelation came at a press conference held in the city last Tuesday by BLC, adding that the expenditure came out of the Emergency Budget granted to the city by the Zeidan government for last 2013.

The Ali Zeidan government had allocated the emergency budget in an attempt to provide urgent relief to a series of pressing demands and bottlenecks for the beleaguered city, including the breakdown of security .

The BLC has been asking the Tripoli central government to provide increased funding so that the city can attempt to find some solutions to the huge problems it has faced since the February 2011 Revolution, as the BLC struggles to impose its authority on the city.

BLC leaders had also been coming under increased pressure by their citizens to show where the emergency budget had been spent as the city’s inhabitants complain that not enough is being done to bring order and harmony to the city by both their BLC and central government. [/restrict]
