Tripoli, 21 December 2013:

The Arete Foundation for Arts . . .[restrict]and Culture will put on “First Glance 2013”, a video show in Tripoli’s Old city on Wednesday and Thursday 25-26 December 2013.

Performances will begin at six o’clock in the evening and conclude eight in the evening. The exhibition includes seven stations inside the Saraya (Castle) in the Old City of Tripoli.

“We were encouraged to run First Glance for a second time due to the impressive response that the exhibition received last year, which was attended by about 1,000 spectators who enjoyed works on display . We were also encouraged by the warm and supportive response we received from the residents of the Old City who have welcomed us to put on the show once again,” stated the artist Reem Gabriel, executive director of the Arete Foundation.

First Glance 2013 features the first Libyan participation in video arts by filmmaker Mohannad Amin. This year’s program also feature works of animation, a genre that was not included in last year’s show.

First Glance 2013 includes works by artists from Libya, Canada, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Argentina, Italy, USA, Finland, France, Sweden, Iran, U.K., Hong Kong, Norway, Brazil, and Spain.

“The exhibition will allow viewers to navigate between Tripoli’s premiere landmark while enjoying one of the world’s newest and most exciting art forms,” said Gabriel.

First Glance 2013 is sponsored by the Prince Claus Foundation, the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture, Tawasul Libya Corporation, and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Tripoli, and in partnership with the Administration of Historical Cities and Tribute FM (98.1).

Admission is free.
