Tripoli, 30 May 2013:

At Wednesday’s Prime Ministerial press conference, Electricity Minister Ali Muhairig surprised the nation by announcing that . . .[restrict]some of the electricity generators ordered to make up the generation deficit in summer had arrived in an Antonov plane at Mitiga airport. They were all expected to arrive by ship.

At last weeks’ press conference, Minister Muhairig confirmed to a Libya Herald question that most power cuts should be over soon with the anticipated arrival of the huge mobile generators.

Libya Herald had reported on the news of Libya ordering the generators back in March.

With the onset of summer, Libya had started experiencing power cuts again which also affected the transmission of wireless internet (WIMAX).

However, despite speaking to Libya Herald at the end of the press conference, the Minister had not revealed that some generators would be transported by plane in an effort to guarantee their timely arrival.

Moreover, the Electricity Minister confirmed that other generators had arrived at Tripoli, Khoms and Misrata ports and that the generators would be distributed all over the country. He also confirmed that the generator capacity ordered was increased from the initial 250 megawatts to 450 megawatts.

Minister Muhairig went out of his way to praise the Prime Minister and the GNC for supporting him in pushing for more generators to be hired and in speeding up the payments to the US headquartered APR Energy.
