Three members of a Benghazi brigade were killed today when assailants threw a bomb at the . . .[restrict]checkpoint they were manning in the east of the city.
The bomb, believed to be a Gelatina, was thrown around 2.30 am from a red Hyundai car at the roundabout in the Hay-Salam district. One of the brigade died instantly. The others were rushed to Al-Jalaa hospital but two of them later died from their injuries. A fourth is reported to be in intensive care. The other two are said to be unharmed.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area in an attempt to try and capture the killers but without success.
The men belonged to the Handuk Brigade which along with other brigades had been tasked with providing security protection in the city.
This was not the first such attack since the assignment of these forces. On 17 May there was a similar bomb assault at a checkpoint in Selmani district but no one was injured. The assailants were identified as two Libyans and a Sudanese.A few days later there was a bomb attack at a checkpoint at the roundabout near Dubai Street. Again no one was hurt. The attackers remain unidentified.
