It . . .[restrict]is reported that Congress is to debate a recommendation from its Defence Committee to dismiss the Chief of Staff Major-General Yousef Mangoush from office.
However, a senior Congress official told the Libya Herald today, Wednesday, that members are very divided on the issue. “They’re saying that they can’t throw him out before listening to him and hearing what he has to say,” the official said. “They want to listen to him first before deciding anything.”
Rumours that Mangoush was going to be dismissed have been circulating for weeks. Massed protestors in Benghazi on 15 February vociferously called for him to be sacked, blaming him for the lack of security in the city.
However, the 62-year-old, who was appointed Chief of Staff just over a year ago, is believed to have the backing of both Prime Minister Ali Zeidan and the President of Congress, Mohamed Magarief. [/restrict]
