Tripoli, 11 December:
The Integrity Commission’s decision to disbar Ali Mohammed Muhairiq as minister of electricity was overturned on Monday by a . . .[restrict]court of appeal in Tripoli.
The Commission announced that Muhairiq had failed to meet its extensive criteria on 13 November, along with Prime Minister Zeidan’s proposed ministers of interior (Ashour Shuwail), higher education (Abdulasalm Bashir Duabi) and National Congress relations (Fathi Al-Khoja).
On 3 December, the appeals court also overturned the ruling against Ashour Shuwail, precipitating a counter-appeal by the Integrity Commission at the Supreme Court and an intense debate in the National Congress.
Regarding the case of Muhairiq, the appeals court noted that he did not hold any position in the former regime and left Libya in 1981, whereupon he joined the ranks of the anti-Qaddafi opposition. [/restrict]
