Customs Authority uncovers 11 companies involved in illicit use of Letters of Credit exceeding US$ 54 million

The Acting Director General of Libya’s Customs Authority, and his accompanying delegation, held a meeting in Italy last Monday (27 April) with the Chairman of the Italian software company Ingegneria.

The meeting aimed to assess the technical requirements necessary for the Automated Inspection System.

The Customs Authority reported that the Chairman of Ingegneria expressed his appreciation to the Director General for his efforts in resolving the previously existing issue, which resulted in reaching a fair settlement between both parties under the supervision of the Office of the Attorney General.

For his part, the Director General of the Customs Authority stressed the importance of activating the automated inspection system and enhancing the efficiency of personnel working in this field, while also emphasizing the need to provide technical requirements, including spare parts and routine maintenance for the equipment.

The meeting also addressed the previously concluded addendum contract, which is expected to contribute to addressing operational gaps within the Customs Authority.

Furthermore, discussions covered mechanisms to maintain the readiness of the equipment and ensure optimal maintenance to protect it from tampering or misuse. In this regard, the Chairman of the Ingegneria confirmed their intention to establish a maintenance facility in Libya and provide permanent technical staff to carry out tasks efficiently.

A series of follow-up meetings is expected to take place in the coming period to further strengthen cooperation between both parties and achieve the desired objectives.
